Personal life

Van Dyke was born in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. During her own childhood, she travelled to Kunming, China to volunteer her services at a rehabilitation centre for leprosy sufferers.[2] When she turned seven, her parents adopted her younger sister, Abigail. They have two older siblings, a sister and brother.[2]

Career

Van Dyke graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Arts, with distinction in Honours, and plans to continue her studies through a Masters by thesis.[2]

Van Dyke has contributed to multiple charitable organizations, including United Against Abuse, The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, and The Sophie Elliot Foundation. [1] Following her contribution at the Prime Minister's Youth Programme, Van Dyke was invited to become a global ambassador for the Clean Services Foundation, a campaign against the sexual grooming and exploitation of children. Miss Universe New Zealand

Judging panel head and Lucire publisher Jack Yan said of van Dyke, "We have not seen such positive public comments—nearly universally—for any Miss Universe New Zealand in the four years I have been on the judging panel for the pageant. These photographs show that Ria’s intelligence and sincerity are matched with outward beauty. She is, to date, our most popular Miss Universe New Zealand this century."[3]

Modeling

Following her return from Miss Universe, Van Dyke's success continued as she became the first New Zealander to represent the Face of beauty and cosmetic brand INNOXA and carried out fashion campaigns for designers in New York, including Stephen Mikhail. [1] Van Dyke went on to model for top fashion designers in New Zealand, Paula Ryan and Jane Yeh. [1]
